Stainless Steel

spans its history across 3500 years. Stainless Steel an endurance of beauty is an invention that has revolutionised the way we look at steel.

Only a century ago, metallurgists discovered that by adding minimum 10% of chromium to regular steel would result in the formation of a transparent layer that not only prevents rusting but would also self-heal when destructed by dents, scratches or rough use.
Along with its anti-corrosive quality, Stainless steel also ensures great strength and opposition to oxidation at high temperatures and corrosive action of acids.
Today its applicability is widespread due to its versatility to be moulded into intricate shapes and desired sizes.
Looking at its widespread usage and applicability, Stainless steel is used in the following industries:

1. Domestic:
The best quality and finest kitchenware use 420 and 410 grade for knives, while grade 304 is found useful in making of spoons and forks for the ductility and ability to be shaped, buffered and ground easily. Along with Kitchenware and cutlery, it’s also used in making of microwave and oven liners, washing machine drums and razor blades widely. (Higher the grade number, better the quality)

2. Oil and Gas, Chemical Industry:
Chemical industries demand tough and robust steel that shows high anti-corrosive properties and resistance to high temperatures and their one stop solution is now Stainless Steel. It is used in desalination and sewage plants, offshore oil rings, cable trays, pressure vessels and pipelines.

3. Medical Applications:
Medical Equipment demands a clean and polished finish, thereby stainless is used for implants and artificial hips. Other applications include surgical instruments, MRI Scanners, orthopaedic beds and examination machines.

5. Architecture:
Low maintenance, toughness and anti-vandal characteristics of Stainless Steel makes its way into the applicability in the Architecture industry. It is also used in door and window fittings, street furniture, lighting columns and reinforcement bars.

Other than the above-stated industries, transport and power generation industries. With its corrosion resistance properties, stainless steel has also been recognized for its mechanical characteristics. It is continuously finding its way into other industries with its wide applicability.
